Energy Coach Challenge- What we’ve achieved so far

Wine Cheese and Bob at the Bedford Playhouse

December’s Community Climate Hero is Bob Fischman, Personal Energy Coach. Bedford 2030 launched the Energy Coach Challenge in January 2022 to empower individual residents to create a sustainable, healthier home while also lowering their costs. Buildings give off 50% of Bedford’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions, making this a high priority action area for a sustainable future. Every house, building or apartment that switches to electrification positively affects the community in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Throughout the year, the Bedford 2030 Free Personal Energy Coach, Bob Fischman, has supported a series of events (offered in English and/or Spanish), and offered guidance through FREE personal energy coaching sessions. Our challenge was to commit 150 residents to a free session with our energy coach, or to attend an energy coach session.

Bob also conducts virtual sessions throughout Westchester and beyond, and has consulted with homeowners as far away as Maine!

To date, we have 137 residents signed up and completed 126 individual consults. Additionally, this year the energy coach has participated in a number of events reaching an estimated additional 600+ community members. Resulting actions from consultations with Bob include:

  • Installing better insulated garage doors and new external doors
  • Transitioning to heat pumps
  • Re-insulating attic and rim joists
  • New roof insulation
  • New duct work
  • Installing an electric water heater
  • Joined Community Choice Aggregation!

The Inflation Reduction Act will offer rebates for many of these upgrades. Sign up for a FREE Personal Energy Coach Session to receive guidance on making upgrades and accessing these funds.
