The 11th annual Greenlight Award® competition is off to a roaring start, with 80 high school students from 8 schools and clubs across the county pitching their climate action project ideas at the rapid-fire virtual Proposal Showcase on December 7th. Supported by a growing network of community partners, the Greenlight Award continues to give students a platform to turn climate concern into action.
The Proposal Showcase, the midpoint of the school-year-long competition, is a Shark Tank-style frenzy of innovation and a nexus of local mentorship. This year, Greenlight students presented their sustainability solutions to a group of 35 experts who model climate action in their careers and personal lives.
Proposals are assessed on their feasibility, creative problem-solving, and potential for local impact. The Greenlight Award goes far beyond a traditional science fair—projects aim for measurable change and real-world stakeholder involvement, reflecting a community that values supporting innovation and action.
This year’s entries span a wide range of climate solutions, from plastic reduction to invasive species management to e-waste disposal. Many students design apps, teach in local schools, or initiate school-wide awareness campaigns. These high schoolers imagine new solutions that push the boundaries of the conventional—not simply to earn an “A” grade, but to benefit their community.
The Greenlight Award thrives because of a circle of supporters that believes in young people and their power to drive change. We invite individuals and organizations who believe in empowering the next generation of climate leaders to consider sponsoring the Greenlight Award.
Mark your calendars for the 11th annual Greenlight Award Finals on April 19th, 2026 at the Bedford Hills Community House, open to the public.
