EV Highlight: Meet the Chevy Bolt!

In June 2021 we had the great pleasure of partnering with Mt. Kisco Chevrolet to learn about and showcase their all-electric Chevy Bolt! We sat down with one of their representatives to chat about EVs, the Bolt, and Chevy’s plans for making EVs more widely available.

What's the difference between an electric and hybrid vehicle?
Electric vehicles are 100% battery powered, while Hybrid vehicles have a gas motor AND an electric charging battery.
What is Chevrolet's goal for selling electric vehicles?
By 2025, GM will have 30 all electric vehicles in the lineup. By 2035, all vehicles will be electric.
How many electric vehicles do you currently sell?
Mount Kisco Chevrolet sells an average of 10 all-electric plug-in vehicles per month. Our most popular electric vehicle is the Bolt EV.

What do you think is the biggest benefit to driving a hybrid or EV?
Driving an electric or hybrid vehicle is good for the environment. Electric vehicles have approximately 2,000 fewer parts to repair, so they are less expensive to operate and maintain.
What do you think is the biggest barrier to people choosing a hybrid or EV?
Range anxiety (ie. How far can I go on a single charge?). Customers like to know where to charge when traveling and how long it will take. Chevrolet has developed an app to help customers overcome this barrier. The MyChevrolet App lets you view your vehicle’s range and see available charging stations on a map. This feature can also let you know if a specific route is within range, and allows you to adjust your route in real time to meet your energy needs.

How do the prices of your EV/hybrid models compare to gasoline options?
All-electric vehicles cost a few thousand dollars more than traditional gas vehicles. However, the current 2021 Bolt EV has up to $16,000 of incentives for NY residents. These rebates will change in July 2021.
How is Chevy supporting buyers in making the transition to an EV?
Chevrolet has partnered with QMerit to offer free home installation of Level 2 chargers with the purchase of a 2022 Bolt EV or EUV. They have also partnered with EVGo to increase the number of public charging stations nationwide.

For those of us who aren't ready or able to buy an EV right now, what can we do to make our gas-powered vehicles more efficient?
Checking your tire pressure and maintaining factory-recommended tire pressure gives optimal fuel economy.
