Happy Earth Week!
Last weekend, Bedford 2030 kicked off Earth Week with a bang, hosting our annual Earth Day Festival. From interactive workshops, native plants and trees and sustainable options around transportation, food and energy to live music and family fun, the festival was a vibrant celebration of planet Earth. Highlights included the finals for Bedford 2030’s 9th annual Greenlight Award competition for Westchester high school students, as well as the unveiling of a native plant garden at the Bedford Hills Library. As we reflect on the festivities, we’re reminded that every day is Earth Day!

Earth Day 2024 at a glance:
- Greenlight: Approximately 100 individuals, including judges and participants, joined us for the Greenlight Awards, many of whom then walked down to the Earth Day Festival.
- Earth Day Exhibitors: We had about 40 tables representing various organizations and businesses dedicated to sustainability, with roughly 100 participants showcasing their initiatives and engaging with attendees.
Earth Day Visitors: Approximately 300 people attended throughout the day. While the weather could have been warmer, we were grateful for the enthusiastic turnout, especially from families eager to participate in our eco-friendly activities.
85 trees were generously given away to participants by Lasdon Park and Arboretum and Friends of Hilltop Hanover Farm just in time for Arbor Day!
Rusticus Garden Club sold 60 bare root Red Oak saplings.
Hopp Garden Club gave away 40 brown bags filled with a small pot, soil, and some marigold seeds. They also demonstrated and gave out 25 sustainable teacup arrangements made with thrifted mugs.
Attendees got tips all day long on climate solutions to take in their homes and yards from Bedford 2030’s Energy and Rooted Solutions coaches.
