Fifty Westchester gardens will be open to the public on Sunday, July 24 as part of the Healthy Yards/Bedford 2030 Healthy Garden Tour!
Environmental organizations estimate that the United States has lost more than 60% of its insect population and 30% of its birds since 1970, mostly as a result of habitat loss. Home gardeners are opening their yards to the public for a three-hour window to showcase earth-friendly landscaping techniques. Eliminating pesticides and gas leaf blowers while increasing the use of native plants, composting, and rewilding all support insects, birds and other wildlife.
An interactive map found at www.healthyyards/tour provides the location of the gardens, hours, and their descriptions. With some exceptions, gardens roughly south of I-287 will be open 10 am – 1 p.m. and those roughly north of I-287 are open from 1 – 4 p.m.
